This presentation explains how a detailed steam turbine train model was developed by dividing the HP, IP, and LP turbines into multiple sections to account for changing steam flow rates caused by bleed steam extraction. Gland steam systems were modelled using labyrinth seals and pressure-controlled chambers to represent steam leakage and sealing behaviour. Bleed steam extraction flows were matched to design values by sizing orifices using P-controllers and steady-state transient simulations. All 17 turbine sections were connected to a single shaft operating at 3000 rpm, allowing Flownex to calculate the excess power available for electricity generation. The model provides a detailed visual and analytical representation of steam flow throughout the turbine system.
