When the "Apply Density Scaling to Chart" option is enabled, does Flownex scale the pump curve on the x-axis (flow rate) or the y-axis (pressure rise) based on the ratio between the actual fluid density and the reference density? Additionally, if a pump chart is provided as volume flow versus pressure rise using standard conditions (for example, SCFM), can the chart be entered directly using the standard reference density, or must the flow values first be converted to actual flow conditions (ACFM)?
The "Apply Density Scaling to Chart" option scales the pump performance curve on the y-axis, not the x-axis.
Pump performance charts supplied by manufacturers are typically generated for a specific fluid at known reference conditions. The reference density entered in Flownex should correspond to the density of the fluid and conditions used when the original pump data was obtained.
When density scaling is enabled and the pump operates with a fluid whose density differs from the reference density, Flownex applies a density scaling factor to estimate the resulting pump performance. For a given volumetric flow rate, the pressure rise is adjusted in proportion to the density ratio, effectively shifting the pump curve vertically on the y-axis while leaving the flow axis unchanged.
Because pump charts are based on actual operating conditions, care should be taken when using flow data reported in SCFM (Standard Cubic Feet per Minute). The chart should represent the same basis as the manufacturer's original data. If the manufacturer generated the chart using standard conditions and the corresponding reference density is defined appropriately, the data may be entered using that basis. However, users should ensure consistency between the flow units, reference density, and the conditions under which the pump performance data was obtained.
