ABSTRACT
This paper presents the development, calibration, and validation of a comprehensive one-dimensional (1D) model for the Ansaldo T100 Micro Gas Turbine (MGT). To ensure an efficient energy supply that can accurately track user demand fluctuations, it is crucial to accurately simulate the plant's performance across its full operating envelope, including challenging off-design and transient conditions. The entire gas turbine system is modeled in one dimension, leveraging 1D unsteady flow equations for the connecting pipes and a combination of performance maps for the turbomachinery and zero-dimensional (0D) blocks for the combustor and recuperator. To achieve high fidelity, the model is rigorously calibrated against experimental data using a Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA-II). This methodology minimizes the error between model predictions and reference data for key operating metrics, including net power output, overall electrical efficiency, exhaust temperature, and rotational speed. The resulting calibrated model accurately predicts the steady and transient behavior of the T100 MGT. The high accuracy achieved validates the vector optimization methodology as a robust and efficient technique for tuning complex 1D thermo-fluid dynamic models. This work provides a reliable, predictive tool for further detailed investigations into the T100 MGT’s control strategies, dynamic response, and fault detection under various real-world operating scenarios.
